Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor Degree Program

The DARC program provides education and training to those seeking employment in the field of addictions counseling. Students receive education in the professional techniques of counseling along with a disciplined background in the environmental and psychological causes and effects of alcohol and other drug dependence and behavioral addictions.

Most graduates transfer to upper level institutions to complete advanced degrees in counseling and related disciplines. The first year specialty courses are open to any student with an interest in the subject area. The second year of the program consists of two semesters of clinical internship. Students are admitted to the internship, and DARC degree status, by a selective admissions process.

Career Opportunities

DARC program is not a certification process, however the program curriculum meets the educational requirements for initial certification. State certification as a drug/alcohol counselor requires three years paid work experience as a substance abuse counselor.

The DARC degree is a recognized entry level credential for initial employment in the field. Students considering the DARC degree program are encouraged to contact the DARC coordinator for advisement
