Mathematics Department

Welcome! Even though Mathematics is one of the oldest disciplines of study, it is a modern, rapidly growing field. The MCC Mathematics Department provides students with an opportunity to develop the problem solving, analytical reasoning and mathematical communication skills necessary to succeed in today’s ever changing technological society.

The department meets the diverse educational needs of students who have multicultural perspectives, individual learning styles and distinct career and life goals by offering a range of mathematics courses from developmental mathematics to differential equations. Students can choose from these courses to satisfy their general education core requirements or various associate degree program requirements. At MCC, students can also take advantage of the many on-campus opportunities to become familiar with graphing technology and the Mathematics Lab for additional help and practice.

A career in mathematics generally requires an advanced degree. Individuals with a background in mathematics are prepared to work in business, industry, government and education as actuaries, computer programmers, statisticians or teachers.

Students interested in pursuing their education in mathematics will often start their course work at MCC because of its high quality instruction and more affordable community college tuition and fees and then transfer into a bachelor of arts or science degree program to continue their studies. Students who are thinking of transferring are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to discuss how MCC courses transfer to other institutions.
