What's New?
Dear Friends of MCC
You – our community of supporters and volunteers – make financial support for students and programs possible.
Most years I greet you with talk of growing enrollments, increased needs and financial constraints. This year is no different. Recent economic challenges resulted in a record number of traditional-aged students coming to MCC for the first time, and older students returning to college to sharpen their skills or explore new careers. Economic pressures are challenging faculty and staff members to deliver high quality services with reduced resources.
Public funds provide the basics. However, private gifts make a tremendous difference. Several new scholarships this year – American Eagle Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Donna Glickman Memorial Scholarship, William Prince Scholarship, Bruce M. and Sondra Astor Stave Scholarship and Eileen Stern Scholarship – celebrate academic excellence while assisting those students for whom financial support is a necessity. Continuing support from long-time college friends like the Anderson family, the Lesunaitis family, Rockville Bank Foundation, Bourn Family, the Rubinow family, Dehn Foundation, the Mann Family, SBM Charitable Foundation and the Weiss family, have all made a positive impact on our students. This past year, we helped students with scholarships and program support totaling over $200,000.
Also during this past year, we have had the honor of getting to know President Gena Glickman during her first year in office. She brings to MCC an enthusiasm and energy that is unparalleled. Twelve months after her arrival in Connecticut, she has already made her mark on the campus, realigning programs and services to better meet the needs of our 21st century students and spearheading a strategic planning initiative.
The MCC Foundation’s plans for next year are also underway. With the opening of the new Great Path Academy building in the fall semester, we are looking forward to using this beautiful new space for the 2010 An Evening of Fine Wines, scheduled for Friday, April 9.
MCC is one of the region’s jewels. I feel it every time I am on campus, and I hope that you do, too. This coming year won’t be without its challenges, but I am confident that all of us – working together – will help Manchester Community College continue to provide a quality education to all who desire it. Thank you for taking an active role in contributing to this exceptional community effort.
Sincerely,
Gene S. Mazur
MCC Foundation President
