Scholarships at Manchester Community College

Manchester Community College is a college of opportunity. With its policy of open admissions, all students — of any age — who possess the desire to pursue higher education, are welcome.

For many students, however, the desire to learn is not enough. Financial aid helps many students meet their tuition and fee obligations, but scholarships can make the critical difference for scores of students each year. If a scholarship could increase your chances of successfully completing a course of study at MCC, please consider the following:

Who Can Apply?

The MCC Scholarship program awards students for academic achievement and financial need. Students may earn a scholarship based on financial constraints, academic excellence, outstanding merit, service to the College and community, or a combination of these factors. Scholarship awards range from $50 to more than $1,000. New and returning students are eligible to apply for scholarships, and both degree and certificate-track students will be considered. Scholarships may be awarded to full-time or part-time students which can be used for the spring or fall semesters. A GPA of 3.0 or better is required and progress in academics is also considered.

How to Apply

Academic Achievement Scholarships

  1. Scholarship Application: Applicants must be a full-time or part-time student, enrolled in a degree or certificate-track program, in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better (progress toward a 3.0 GPA will be taken into consideration), and volunteer activities. Do not leave anything blank.
  2. Two Recommendations: From faculty/professional staff or community person. Applicants must ensure the recommendation forms are submitted by the deadline.
  3. One-Page, Typed Essay: Essay should address the following questions:
    1. What are your future aspirations?
    2. How will receiving a scholarship assist you in achieving these goals?
      Type a one-page essay and address both questions adequately.
  4. College Transcript: A copy of your current MCC college transcript.
  5. Resume: List any extracurricular activities and volunteer work (especially activities at MCC)

Financial Need Scholarships

  1. Scholarship Application: Applicants must be a full-time or part-time student, enrolled in a degree or certificate-track program, in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better, (progress toward a 3.0 GPA will be taken into consideration), volunteer activities and evidence of financial need. Do not leave anything blank.
  2. Financial Statement: Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide a copy of your SAR (student aid report) or tax information (W-2’s, taxes filed).   International students should submit an official statement of their financial situation and include a copy of the most recent bank statement, if applicable.
  3. Two Recommendations: From faculty/professional staff or community person.  Applicants must ensure the recommendation forms are submitted by the deadline.

Only one application per student, per semester is necessary; applicants are considered by the MCC Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Applications will be available in the Fall 2012 semester for Spring 2013.

One Final Note

Many of the scholarships awarded through the MCC Foundation each year are funded by the generosity of MCC alumni, scholarship donors and other friends of the College. Students who receive a scholarship are required to write a letter of thanks to the donor who created the award, letting him or her know the impact the scholarship has had on their academic career. The Office of Advancement & Community Engagement will gladly work with each scholarship recipient to ensure that the donor is properly thanked.

MCC students receiving an associate degree and transferring to the Connecticut State Universities, the University of Connecticut or the University of Hartford may be eligible to recieve a scholarship from those institutions. Contact the Student Affairs office for more information.
