MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in a hospitality discipline or a related area required. Teaching experience at the high school or college level is strongly recommended. Hospitality industry experience required.
An understanding of the mission of the community college and a demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies and involvement in support of a culturally and ethnically diverse population are required.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated must put in writing precisely how their experience has prepared them for the responsibilities of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Hospitality Department is currently seeking adjunct faculty to teach laboratory courses in Principles of Basic Baking and Pastry Arts I, II and III and Artisan Bread. Courses consist of a one-hour lecture and a 3.5-hour laboratory experience. The courses meet one night or day per week for a 16-week semester.
Experience to teach the first level course includes: scientific functions of basic ingredients, production techniques, yeast breads, artisan breads, batters, cookies, pies, cakes and decorating. Experience to teach the second level course includes advanced pastries and classical desserts, including the preparation of petit fours, European style tarts and tortes. Decorative sugar and chocolate work are covered along with ice cream, candies and specialty items. Experience to teach the third level course includes techniques and materials knowledge associated with sculpture of chocolate, sugar, pastillage, salt dough and marzipan. Show piece production is a capstone to this course.
MINIMUM SALARY:
Per semester hour rate: $1,335-1,437 per contact hour; this is a 4.5-contact-hour course.
